    Detectors were installed in December – last week two went off about 9 hours apart for no reason. I made an appointment for that afternoon which was quickly confirmed, but it did need to get rescheduled to the next day. The service tech came in, said it's under warranty so we'll just replace which he did quickly and left me the info booklet for it.

    I spent four decades troubleshooting system software problems. So I know something about troubleshooting perplexing issues. But I don't know electricity. That's why I contacted Mr. Electric of Columbus — on a holiday at that. The electrician they sent us, Jeff D., was friendly, competent, and a skilled troubleshooter. And while our problem only involved a couple light switches, it remained perplexing to a family member who had tried replacing them. The lights continued to fail sporadically. In the end, we had Jeff replace the switches in 2 bathrooms. Jeff also performed a safety inspection of our home's electrical system inside and out. As a result, my family has greater peace of mind about the whole thing — something not listed on the itemized bill but which we're glad we got, nonetheless. Jeff offered suggestions for other improvements we could make but did not try to upsell us nor scare us into making more changes. We will ask for Jeff again to do some additional work in the future, I'm sure. He might be in trouble with his boss because I kept him too long — talking and answering all my "Why this? Why that?" questions. Jeff's a fount of helpful information I wanted to better understand about electricity around my house. There's a world of so-called "professionals" out there across many fields, medicine for example. They're not all the same. When you find one that has integrity, is honest, and knowledgable, you keep their card. For me, it's a short list I keep of various doctors, home repair and service technicians. Jeff and his company just got added to my list. I might have found a cheaper company. I don't know. But for me it's first about integrity, honesty, and knowledge, more than just price. Those boxes were checked today.

    JR was pleasant and professional. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and called AEP who came out and addressed the problem right away. JR talked to the AEP technician and relayed what the plan was. JR was on the job for 6+ hours. It was a joy working with him.
