Level 1 chargers, which are included with EVs, use a 120V outlet and usually take over 20 hours to recharge vehicles. Level 2 chargers are preferable, as they use a 240V circuit that charges between 3 and 7 times faster. For example, adding 100 miles of range with a Level 1 charger may take 20 hours, but the same range is possible with a Level 2 charger in less than 5 hours, making them a true “overnight” option.
Rather than having to constantly charge your vehicle whenever you are at home, a Level 2 charger allows you more flexibility, which can save you money. For example, many utility companies offer reduced “off-peak” electric rates in the evenings, particularly during the hot months of summer.
There is a chance that the home’s electrical system will struggle to handle the Level 2 charger. Fortunately, Mr. Electric is available to perform the needed upgrades and also repair or replace any parts of your EVSE if necessary. Keep in mind that our work is backed by the Neighborly Done Right Promise®, which ensures the job is done right.
