Frequently Asked Questions About Electrical Services in Clermont, FL

  • Electrical Panel Upgrades and Repairs

An outdated electrical panel is one of the most common fire and safety risks in Florida homes. If your home still runs on a 60-amp or 100-amp panel, it likely cannot support today's electrical load, especially with EV chargers, whole house generators, and modern appliances drawing power simultaneously. Most Clermont homes built before 1990 benefit from an electrical panel upgrade to a 200-amp panel.

We also replace faulty breakers, correct overcrowded panels, and install arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) breakers required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) for bedrooms and living areas. If your breakers trip repeatedly, your lights flicker, or your panel feels warm to the touch, call us before a small problem becomes a serious one.

    EV Charging Station Installation

A Level 2 EV charging station requires a dedicated 240-volt, 50-amp circuit. Most home garages are not pre-wired for this load. Our electricians assess your panel capacity, run the appropriate 6 AWG wiring, install the outlet or hardwired charger, and pull the required permit from the City of Clermont or Lake County Building Division.

A Level 2 charger delivers roughly 25 miles of range per hour of charging, compared to 3 to 5 miles per hour on a standard 120-volt outlet. If you drive 30 or more miles per day, a Level 2 installation pays for itself quickly in time and convenience.

    Whole House Generator Installation

Florida's storm season runs from June through November. In Clermont, power outages from thunderstorms and hurricanes are a recurring reality. A whole-house standby generator automatically restores power within seconds of an outage, without any action from you.

Sizing matters. A 10-kilowatt generator covers essential circuits: lights, refrigerator, HVAC, and a few outlets. A 22-kilowatt unit powers your entire home, including the air conditioner, water heater, and home office equipment. We assess your home's load, recommend the right unit for your generator installation, install the automatic transfer switch, connect to your propane or natural gas supply, and coordinate the inspection with Lake County.

    LED Lighting and Lighting Installation

LED bulbs use 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and last more than 25,000 hours. For a Clermont home with 30 or more fixtures, switching to LED cuts lighting costs significantly on your monthly energy bill. We install recessed LED lighting, under-cabinet lighting, ceiling fixtures, bathroom vanity lights, and exterior lighting across Clermont and Lake County.

We also install ceiling fans, attic fans, and light switches, including dimmer switches and smart switches that work with voice assistants and home automation systems.

    Landscape Lighting Installation

Landscape lighting adds security and curb appeal to Clermont properties, especially lakefront and golf course homes where outdoor living is year-round. We install low-voltage pathway lighting, accent lighting for trees and architectural features, and line-voltage security lighting around driveways and entryways.

Low-voltage systems run on 12-volt transformers and are energy-efficient by design. Line-voltage systems (120 volts) deliver stronger output for security cameras, floodlights, and large-scale accent lighting. We size the transformer, run weatherproof wiring, and set timers or photocell controls so the system runs automatically.

Pool, Hot Tub, and Outdoor Wiring

Pool and hot tub electrical work follows NEC Article 680, one of the most detailed sections of the electrical code. Every pool pump, underwater light, and bonding grid must meet specific requirements to prevent electrocution in and around the water.

We wire pool pumps (typically 240 volts, 20 to 30 amps), install GFCI protection on all receptacles within 20 feet of the water, and complete the equipotential bonding that connects all metal components. We also wire outdoor hot tubs, which require a dedicated 240-volt, 50-amp GFCI-protected circuit. This work requires a permit and inspection in Clermont. Do not attempt pool or hot tub wiring without a licensed electrician.

Dedicated Circuits, GFCI, and Receptacle Upgrades

High-draw appliances need dedicated circuits. A microwave needs a 20-amp, 12 AWG circuit. A dryer needs a 240-volt, 30-amp circuit. A refrigerator needs its own 20-amp circuit to prevent nuisance tripping. Running too many appliances on shared circuits causes breaker trips and, over time, wiring damage.

We install dedicated circuits for kitchens, laundry rooms, home offices, and workshops. We upgrade standard outlets to GFCI receptacles in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoor areas as required by NEC 210.8. We also install USB outlets, tamper-resistant receptacles, and smart outlets throughout your home.

Smart Home Devices and Electrical Upgrades

Smart switches, smart thermostats, smart doorbells, and home automation systems all require proper wiring to function correctly. We install and wire smart devices throughout Clermont homes, including whole-home surge protectors that guard against Florida's frequent lightning strikes.

A whole-home surge protector is installed at the main panel and protects every circuit in the house. Point-of-use surge strips protect individual devices but leave the rest of your electrical system exposed. For Clermont homes in lightning-prone areas near the lakes, panel-level surge protection is worth the investment.

Smoke Detectors and Electrical Safety Checks

Florida law and the NEC require hardwired, interconnected smoke detectors in all sleeping areas and on every level of the home. If one alarm sounds, they all sound. Battery-only detectors do not meet this standard in new construction or during major renovations.

We install and replace hardwired smoke detectors, add carbon monoxide detectors where gas appliances are present, and perform whole-home electrical safety checks. A safety check covers your panel, wiring, outlets, GFCI protection, grounding, and smoke detectors. It takes one to two hours and gives you a clear picture of where your system stands.

    Interlock Kits for Generator Connections

If you already own a portable generator, an interlock kit is a code-compliant alternative to a transfer switch. The interlock kit installs on your existing panel and physically prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time, which prevents backfeed onto utility lines.

We install interlock kits for portable generators and size the inlet receptacle to match your generator's output (typically 30 or 50 amps). This is a permitted installation in Lake County.

Dangers of an Overloaded Circuit

Overloading an electrical circuit can cause some serious problems. While that may seem obvious, chances are that you’ve caused a circuit overload at least once in your life.
