Are all EV chargers the same? The answer is: that they are not. Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) chargers come in several power levels, offering different speeds and efficiencies to get your electric vehicle to a full charge. There are three main levels of EV car chargers, with only two that fall into the category of home EV chargers. The different EV charging levels include the following:

• Level One: Level one home EV chargers are the traditional charging features that come with most electric vehicles. Level one EV car chargers can be used in any three-prong outlet and do not call for professional EV charger installation. The downside of level-one EV chargers is that they offer longer charging times. They are best used to charge an electric vehicle overnight, as it may take more than 20 hours to achieve a complete charge.
• Level Two: Level two home EV chargers are the more efficient choice for home use. These advanced EV chargers require a dedicated 240-volt circuit installed by a service professional to ensure optimal function and safety. Level two EV chargers provide faster charging capabilities, with a full charge taking only three hours.
• Level Three: Level three EV chargers feature an industrial-level power draw, making them ineligible to be installed at residential properties. Level three EV chargers are the chargers used in public charging stations. They are fast EV chargers that can contribute up to 160 miles of driving time to an electric vehicle in just 30 minutes.
