  • If you just want to put 100 miles of range on your car for tomorrow’s daily commute, it will take 22 hours with a Level 1—which is technically impossible to complete overnight. A Level 2 charger, however, will give your car or truck 100 miles of range in just 4.5 hours. An added benefit is that since you won’t have to charge your EV around the clock, a Level 2 charger allows you to save money by taking advantage of any evening off-peak rates offered by your utility company (which are becoming more prevalent, especially during the hottest summer months).

    If you pull into your driveway with very little charge remaining on a car with a 250-mile range, your Level 1 charger would need 50 hours to bring your car to full charge. With a Level 2 charger, your vehicle would be fully charged in 11 hours—still possible inside non-peak hours.
