  • The answer to this question varies by light fixture type, of which there are numerous. Many puck lights and strip lights need to be replaced completely when the bulbs fail. The good news is that these LED bulbs can last up to 20 years. Replace long fluorescent or LED light bulbs by removing the protective cover, gently twisting the light bulb until it comes loose, and then inserting and twisting the replacement bulb.

    Replacing old fluorescent lights with LEDs will increase energy efficiency, provide longer-lasting light, and will provide a quieter light. Old fluorescent light ballasts usually start to buzz as they age; this will never happen with LED lights.
